Midroc Automation was involved in part of the overall project in Torslanda. Midroc has been a subcontractor to LKN Industriautomation AB.

Volvo has a stated goal of strengthening its brand name within the group premium cars and therefore they have developed a completely new platform for the series “large” cars - SPA - Scalable Product Architecture. First up is the replacement for the current XC90 and it will be manufactured with a traditional combustion-engine and as a charging-hybrid with a combustion engine.

The delivery mainly consisted of two sub-areas. The first and in size much smaller part was a sunroof and the second part consisted of the side lines which are two in number (right and left) and in round numbers just over ten times as large as a sunroof.

Midroc's delivery included:

  • Construction
  • Programming
  • Cabinet construction
  • Installation and commissioning
  • Education and final documentation
  • Participation in risk analyzes together with LKN and calculation of PL levels

One of the project's challenges was, in addition to a tough time plan, that they chose Siemens' new TIA portal platform with Profinet and failsafe, something that was new for VCC and to some extent also for Midroc.

During a period in the installation phase, Midroc worked in three different locations at the same time. Workshop work in our workshop in Trollhättan, installation at Torslanda and installation of fixtures in Tidaholm and that we started commissioning in the first PLC.

LKN and Midroc got much praise from VCC for the progress and execution of the project and that the time plan was kept in a good way from start to finish. All the project's employees made a fantastic effort, which led to the fact that you could follow the set schedule, which in turn led to a satisfied customer and end customer.
