A long track record of co-operation
Lennart Wikström from Ludvika in Sweden and Mohammed Al Amoudi from Weldiya in Ethiopia met in the 1980s in Saudi Arabia. They started working together on one of the world’s largest and most complex infrastructure projects, which required innovative and wide-ranging specialist expertise. There and then, the seed was sown for what became the Granitor Group.
Midroc takes shape
The first project carried out by the group was what we like to call “The Large Cavern Project”. The task was to build an enormous cavern for the storage of refined petroleum products – in the middle of the desert! The businessman Mohammed Al-Amoudi was assigned the project in partnership with a Swedish industry consortium. A number of companies had to be acquired both in and outside Sweden in order to complete the project. They included the ABV Rock Group project company, which acted as coordinator for the entire project. Lennart Wikström was responsible for creating a common company structure for the Swedish companies and gathered these under the Midroc brand in 1996.
Granitor is emerging
Three years after the start, the Swedish business took a new decisive step. Lennart’s sons became involved via their family company Granitor when they entered into partnership with Mohammed to develop the Midroc Group in Europe, with a focus on the Swedish market. Since 1999, under the leadership of Lennart’s sons, Midroc has increased exponentially in size, and has been widely acclaimed as a responsible community builder, investor in cutting-edge technologies and attractive employer. This trend will continue well into the future, as Midroc now changes its name to Granitor and the Wikström family takes even greater responsibility for the business. Mohammed Al Amoudi remains as a longer-term minority owner and financier.
