The project manager builds a new district

Christian Ahlkrona, a trained construction engineer from Helsingborg, is now working as project manager for his dream project – an entirely new district in his hometown.

Background
Trained construction engineer from Linnaeus University in Växjö. Has previously worked as project leader at a company in Helsingborg that worked with similar projects, then as an external consultant. Today, Christian works as Project Manager for the housing project SeaU in Helsingborg and has been since the turn of year 2015-2016.

What is the role of a project manager?
A project manager keeps the project together, drives the design and implementation from the first drafts to the project implementation.

What projects do you work with?
I am working with the housing project SeaU, an entirely new district in central Helsingborg. The project is a part of a larger project consisting of three parts. The first part was to move an existing building about 80 meters to its new location (Tivoli). Now, we are building a hotel and conference facility in addition to the 155 homes. The housing will be ready for residents during spring 2019 and the conference facility in 2020.

How did you end up at Granitor?
I was familiar with Granitor because I have friends who have worked here. I had heard a lot of good things about the company, and when the position as project manager turned up, I could not resist applying. It was partly because it was a project that I was very interested in, but also because I had heard so many great things about the work environment and the colleagues that I decided to apply to Granitor.

How would you describe the Granitor culture?
What I feel characterizes the Granitor culture is that it is a very open-minded atmosphere. The office climate is good and everyone is positive and always willing to help. There is always someone to ask and talk to about work, at the same time as we have a lot of fun together. It has never felt hard going to work on a Monday morning, coming to work is always fun.

What is your inspiration?
I am inspired by the production, to create something and watch it grow. Regardless of whether it is a large residential building or a smaller project. It feels great to be involved and design all the blueprints together, which then are used to produce a complete building that will stand tall for hundreds of years.

What is your dream project?
This. The housing project SeaU really is a dream project. It is probably 50/50 because of the workplace and the project. I am from Helsingborg, so it is extra fun to implement a project in central Helsingborg, where new buildings are rare. And then to be involved in the implementation of this project, homes with a great location by the water, that is a dream.
